Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

This is the Melton Town North Beat, Neighbourhood Policing Monthly Newsletter and Priorities Update email.

Notable updates to pass on:

From November the 9th and for one week, Leicestershire Police undertook knife crime action as part of the National Operation Spectre. This was supported by the force’s established #LivesNotKnives campaign and partnership work which aims to reduce knife crime by targeting those carrying weapons and disrupt the supply of knives available to use.

The Melton Town North Beat held a knife crime awareness input at John Ferneley College, conducted knife sweeps around the Fairmead Estate and as part of stop searches and an arrest, seized knives. Knife crime will not be tolerated on the streets.

As part of your feedback and surveys via Neighbourhood Link, we have outlined the three main priorities you have raised as issues and concerns on the Melton Town North Beat.

Anti-Social Behaviour continues to be one of our biggest priorities. Unfortunately, we have had numerous reports of stone throwing, egg throwing and other general ASB complaints on the Fairmead Estate involving some of the local youths. This is currently being closely monitored by the beat team and we are also closely working with the NR31 Town Beat Team to deal with issues that have been occurring in the town centre.

We have managed to identify some of the youths that have been involved in the ASB and have issued verbal warnings and written warnings to youths regarding the complaints. One youth has also been put onto a ‘Acceptable Behaviour Contract’ where the Beat Team will work with them, the school and other agencies over the next months to reduce their involvement in ASB.

Regular patrols are being conducted in the hotspot areas.

We fully appreciate the negative impact that ASB happens and how it can affect people mentally and physically, so please do not hesitate to report ASB to Police online via https://www.leics.police.uk/ , or by calling the Police on 101, (always 999 in an emergency).

Another of our local priorities raised by yourselves has been Drug Taking and Drug Dealing.

Foot and vehicle patrols around our Drug Taking / Dealing hotspots are being conducted on a regular basis in an effort to crack down on drug misuse in the area.

We are always grateful for your help and involvement on bringing offenders to justice, therefore we are urging anyone to report any information known about the supply of drugs to us by calling 101, or via our Facebook or Twitter accounts. You can also report information to us completely anonymously via Crime Stoppers online, or over the phone, their website is www.crimestoppers-uk.org/ and their phone number is 0800 555 111.

Our third local priority is Road Safety.

We continue to acknowledge your concerns of speeding in and around Melton Mowbray.

We will continue to work with our Safer Roads Team to conduct speed monitoring and enforcement whenever possible. If you have any pressing suggestions don’t hesitate to leave a comment, contact us on our social media page or send us a message on Neighbourhood Link.
