Section 59 Train line noise and Catalytic Converters

Alert message sent 21/07/2021 22:42:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Hello,

We hope you are all keeping well. Short update for Burbage crime this week.

Following complaints of speeding, noise and dangerous driving around the Wellbeck Avenue area, we managed to locate the driver of a pit bike and have issued the owner with a section 59 warning. This means if the vehicle or rider is seen to behave in this manner again, the vehicle will be removed.

I forgot to mention, but thanks to a resident contacting me through neighbourhood link, we managed to re-unite a lost phone with the owner who had dropped it. A big well done to the resident who found it. Pc Sharpe kept suggesting I call the mobile to let the resident know we had her phone, it took him a while but following some work, we got there :)

There appears to be some work being completed on the rail line around the Brookside area on Sunday 25th July between midnight and 07:30. You can visit their site via this link https://www.networkrail.co.uk/communities/living-by-the-railway/ or call 03457114141. We usually get a few calls when these works happen due to “sawing and bolt cutter type noises”.

This is just to make you aware but please remember to always call 999 in an emergency if you believe there is a crime in progress.

The last message we sent mentioned an attempt car theft from Sketchley Grange hotel. It has transpired this was probably an attempt theft of the catalytic converter. On the night of this incident, another vehicle at the same location had their converter stolen. We are currently investigating these two reports but just be aware that the targeted vehicles usually include Japanese models such as the Honda Jazz, Toyota Prius, Toyota Auris and Lexus RX of all generations and ages due to the precious metals in the converter.

Please see the link for security tips if you have one of these models. https://www.leics.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/keeping-vehicles-safe/catalytic-converter-theft/

Bicycle theft from DPD and I have spoken to some residents around potential attempt theft from van and shed. Please again check your security. Make sure everything is locked up and secure. Get in touch if you want any easy, low cost security ideas such as shed alarms, window alarms, signage and much more.

Microsoft scam from resident to raise awareness

“I am just writing to advise people that I have just received a call, supposedly from someone from Microsoft, calling about my computer. He rang straight back and was quite aggressive, talking quickly and insisting that he was ringing from Microsoft and that my computer had been compromised. I told him that I was having difficulty understanding what he was saying and said that I would contact Microsoft myself and again hung up. He has not rung back!!!
I felt a bit "rattled" by this phone call and this man's aggressive approach.
I switched on my computer and Googled Microsoft about this, and this is part of their response, which may be worth passing on to the public I have highlighted the last line, which is pertinent.
Microsoft does not send unsolicited email messages or make unsolicited phone calls to request personal or financial information, or to provide technical support to fix your computer. Any communication with Microsoft has to be initiated by you. “

Thank you and speak soon. Take care,

Darren 6035
