Banking Scam

Alert message sent 23/06/2021 16:49:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Afternoon

I have become aware of a slightly different scam today.

Resident recieves a call from a male claiming to be from Action Fraud and the male gives them a phone number and website address which if you google them are genuine and do relate to action fraud.
They tell the resident their bank card has been comprimised and they believe that staff working for the named card holder are responsible.
They instruct the resident to transfer all funds to another account which they provide details for and tell the resident that if banking staff challenge them that the money is for a family friend.

Please remember banks will never request you to move money from one account to another, if you have any doubts please report it directly to you bank or report it to the police via 101.
Quite often these scams will lead to you disclosing passwords and banking details before you have even realised you have done it.
